Description:
View of the Devil's Step-Ladder, from White Horse Hill, on the downs above Uffington. The title is from Seamus Heaney's marvellous poem, 'Sunlight', which can be seen here: www.festivaldepoesiademedellin.org/pub.php/en/Diario/12_1... My camera in its death-throes, doing the best that it can... The woodland at the base of the combe covers one of the sources of the local River Ock. You can see photographs of this river in my River Ock set. The water at the source is wonderfully pure and cold, gushing straight out of the chalk. The combe and step ladder were gouged out by a glacier in the Ice Age. Perhaps it is encouraging that there are no human beings in this picture.
