Description:
Carte de visite. Studio of R. B. Legge, 52 Lisson Grove. Bought from an eBay seller in Winsen, Germany. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisson_Grove Possibly the same R. B. Legge, of Kilburn Square, who was granted a patent in 1866 for "a new or improved mode of printing patterns on dyed silks and all kinds of dyed goods". Perhaps the sitter is reading a book penned by his neighbour George Eliot? She lived in Lisson Grove during the 1860s and 1870s, and wrote her celebrated novel Middlemarch there.
