West Apple River is located on two sides of the Apple River, a small river with a large, shallow tidal harbour in the Bay of Fundy. A tidal, small craft harbour serves as base to small commercial fishing boats. The area was known to the Mi'kmaq as Agoomakun, meaning place of abundant Herring.
